With Italy setting a new record for the number of daily Covid-19 infections today, Sunday, amounting to 11,705 injuries during the past 24 hours, Conte said that the situation has become dangerous, but stressed that his government is determined to avoid repeating the general isolation measures that were imposed at the beginning of the crisis in March.
“The situation is dangerous,” Conte told a news conference. “The government is doing its part, but everyone has to do what it is.”
After decisions were issued to close bookmakers starting from 9 p.m., stop amateur sports competitions, and stop local fairs, Conte said that the government will consider closing gyms and swimming pools after conducting additional checks this week for security protocols. The ministry said it had also recorded 69 deaths from Covid-19, an increase. From 47 cases the day before, but far less than the number recorded at the height of the pandemic in March and April, which exceeded 900 cases per day.
Italy was the first country in Europe to be severely affected by Covid-19, and it recorded the second largest number of deaths on the continent after Britain, with the number of deaths 36,543 since the outbreak of the pandemic in February.
