The official Kan channel said that the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had made an unusual effort to present a plan today, before the committee, for approval, to establish a permanent US embassy in the “Arnona” neighborhood of occupied Jerusalem.
The channel quoted an informed source, whom it did not name, that the decision of Netanyahu’s office came because the Americans have not yet chosen the location of the embassy in occupied Jerusalem, without further details.
On December 6, 2017, US President Donald Trump announced the recognition of occupied Jerusalem as the capital of the Israeli occupation, and decided to move the embassy from Tel Aviv in accordance with a promise he made during his election campaign before ascending to the country’s seat of government.
Indeed, Trump moved his country’s embassy from Tel Aviv to occupied Jerusalem on May 18, 2018, in conjunction with the anniversary of the occupation’s celebration of its alleged independence.
However, at that time, the embassy was moved to a building belonging to the US Consulate in Jerusalem, to be used temporarily until a permanent headquarters for the embassy was built.
Media reports indicated that Washington had proposed more than one site for the establishment of the embassy, without any decision on the matter yet.
