The International Handball Federation confirmed the withdrawal of the United States and the Czech Republic from the World Championships that will be held from January 13-31 in Egypt, after the outbreak of the Corona virus between the players of the two teams.
“The United States handball team has officially reported its withdrawal from the world championship after many positive cases of Covid-19 in compulsory tests,” the International Federation said on its website.
He added, “Consequently, the United States will be the second country to withdraw due to many positive cases of Covid-19 after the Czech Republic canceled its participation yesterday (Tuesday).”
Switzerland will replace the United States while North Macedonia takes the place of the Czech Republic in the 32-team tournament, which opens today (Wednesday) with a confrontation between Egypt, the host country, and Chile.
Egypt had planned to attend up to 5,000 fans per match, but the Egyptian government canceled the decision due to fears of Covid-19, and the tournament will now be held without fans.
